Light Born of Darkness

I am no Skald and so my way of telling a tale is different then those of the Gibbous Moon. This is a tale told to me in my younger days. Shortly after being given my name and rank amongst the Fenrir. Because I am a mule, no pack would have me and I was unsure of my ability to win my way into a Fenrir pack in the traditional way. I had been lucky to slay my parents and it was only due to the wisdom of the For-Eldra and the wearing of the Bear shirt that I was able to do so.

I had left the old lands of the Fenrir to come to this continent, a Godi who is my cousin by my grandfather's sister's uncle's son and was aware of my connection to our shared Ancestors opened the ways of the moon for me to make the travel. I traveled alone in flesh but with the multitudes of those who came before me as my companions. They told me many tales of themselves and this is one of them.

My great-grandfather's brother in marriage was also named Hadrian yet his name amongst the Garou was Light Born of Darkness. The name Hadrian means in the ape language The Dark One and like me my Ancestor was born with skin the color of a moonless night. He was born on an eclipse moon and the Godi's said that the night of his birth and his discoloration was a sign of Jormungder's blood somewhere in his veins. Before he was 5 years of age his mother was found to be under the control of the Shield Brother of Adders and she was killed for her treachery. His father, a Forsetti who almost wore the Ice Shirt after hearing of his son's true lineage, refused to let his son suffer the punishment for crimes he did not commit. The Godi's warned that one day the child would follow the call of his blood and join the Shield Brothers of Adders and betray the Fenrir but his father defeated them all and won the right to give his son a chance to prove them wrong. He said that if the Fenrir were so weak as to kill a child who had done no wrong simply because they feared what an unproven child MIGHT do then Jormungder had already won. Simply to prove him wrong the Godi's became silent but their prophecy held in the air and it was remembered every time the child was seen and whispered of quietly during the day so that no forces of the Wyrm could hear as the child grew in years.

As he approached the age of manhood he grew more and more quiet, the other children refused to play with him and the older ones on the verge of their own manhood would tease him and treat him as if he were less than an Auvirthi. It was on one of these days that he underwent his first change, no longer able to withstand the beatings and disrespect of his father's son he wore the Wolf shirt for the first time and when the blood hit the ground for the last time he had slain 1 cub and maimed two others. Again the Godi's tried to have him killed pointing to his slaying of Fenrir cubs as proof of their prophecy. Once again his father won the right to keep him alive but he was scarred and maimed from the battle his years catching up to him.

As a result he was killed in the next battle with Jormungder's forces a beast of flesh and spirit both that tore the old Forsetti in half and wounded the rest of his pack. When the corpse was brought back to the Varthi the Godi's saw it as their chance to finally rid Gaia of the blighted child, and the Varthi fell into a depression losing a great leader and friend and being torn apart from within by the near Shadow Lord like actions of the Godi's. Because of this the beast in the nearby hills grew stronger and destroyed a village of Kinfolk. The Fenrir were broken in spirit and gave only a token response the warriors who went fleeing from the battle. The Godi's said that this was Hadrian's treachery that his living is what killed his father as surely as the claws of the beast, other Fenrir started to agree for they could not think of any other viable reason for it and when they went to finally put an end to the blight of the young cub they found him gone. The Godi's used this as more fuel to the fire and every available Fenrir even those wounded tracked Hadrian's trail. They found his trail leading to the lair of the Forath and the Godi's again used this as a sure sign that he was a Shield Brother of Adders.

When they came into the lair they heard the sounds of battle and the roars of a Fenrir and thought that another Fenrir from another Varthi had come across the Forath and Hadrian and was being attacked. They wore the Wolf shirt and charged into the beast's pit and saw the young Hadrian engaged with the Forath. It was said later that he moved with such speed and Rage that his claws burned with a holy light and that his fury was unmatched in any previous tales. They turned to the Godi's for answers and the Godi's said that he was going to eat the beast and gain its strength to kill them all. This was not easily believed and the Godi pack stepped forward to do the job themselves, it was then that the beast cried out for help not to Hadrian but to the pack of Godis. This caused more confusion but when the Forath named each and every Godi pleading for help from its brothers the Fenrir saw the light of truth and tore both Forath and traitor apart.

When it was over Hadrian told of how his Ancestors told him the truth his father's spirit told him of the Godi treachery but how nothing could be done, as it would tear the Varthi apart from within. The proof was found at the Varthi in the Godi's lodge where banes were being kept in preparation for the Midgard Serpent's takeover along with items that hid their taint. Hadrian was accorded the rank of Ungdom for his deeds in rooting out the traitors and killing the Forath even when the rest of the Varthi believed in him not. He was given the name Light Born of Darkness because he had proven that there are none above redemption and that Jormungder tears at our hearts as much as our flesh.

He is my Ancestor and with my deeds I redeem him and return him to the light.
